September’s headlines made the stakes clear. The United States grappled with coordinated cyber intrusions targeting critical infrastructure, a rise in politically motivated violence and extremism, and increasingly aggressive state-backed influence operations. Iran-linked groups escalated cyber threats, while China and Russia intensified campaigns to undermine American institutions and technologies. Against this backdrop, resilient innovation and strategic collaboration—with government, industry, and investment partners—have never been more urgent.
This is why our October newsletter spotlights two strategic frontiers. First, “Bridging the Innovation Gap”—co-authored with Blaise Zandoli from the Army SBIR/STTR program—examines how recent reforms are accelerating the deployment of dual-use technologies across areas like artificial intelligence, energy resiliency, critical minerals, and immersive systems, translating innovation directly into greater security and market strength. Second, “Space Energy Has Arrived—Will America Lead?” by space advisor and CGCI Council Member, Lance Bush, details the race for lunar Helium-3 extraction and quantum breakthroughs, mapping a new domain where technological leadership and access to strategic resources translate into geopolitical leverage.
CGCI’s mission is to unite the decision-makers needed to turn these challenges into momentum. Thank you for your ongoing commitment to making America more secure, innovative, and competitive.
Sincerely,
Christina Alfonso
Executive Director, Council on Global Competition and Innovation – CGCI
